Utengule lodge has beautiful views that refresh the soul! Also so many flowers and birds to see. A lovely little swimming pool (that is always kept clean), is refreshing when the weather is warm. It’s a wonderful place to relax away from it all

We bought a car and drove through all of sub-Saharan Africa few a few months passed through Mbeya. We saw the Coffee Lodge and asked them if there was a chance to have our car parked there for a few days, while we went to Zanzibar. The way Coffee behaved from beginning till end was extraordinary and 100% the best and nicest service we received in our entire time in Africa. The parking the car was not a problem, but besides that, everyone went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. The property is nice and clean, the food is amazing (try the beef!), and all in all, staying at Utengule Coffee Lodge made our entire Africa experience even better than it was already anyways.
Specials thanks go out to Debbie, it was such a pleasure meeting you. See you soon

“Our family stayed three nights at one of the self-catering bungalows on the premises of the Utengule Coffee Lodge. We selected the self-catering option as a safe way to travel during the COVID19 pandemic. The bungalow was clean, spacious and the kitchen well-equipped for our meal preparations. We had full access to all of the activities on offer at the lodge. We enjoyed using the tennis court and the billiard table. We also took advantage to take a fascinating walking tour of the coffee plantation with their agronomist. The views from the lodge are gorgeous, the immersion in nature is restorative and the fresh and cool climate was very enjoyable. The staff at the main lodge was extremely friendly and accommodating and booking online with the manager was easy. There are many day trips available to take from the lodge that sound terrific.”

“We had a wonderful stay at Utengule, enjoying the magnificent view & garden while having good family time with all the activities in and around the lodge (great walks in the forest, visit of the coffee farm, swimming pool, tennis, squash, ping pong, pool table, darts, baby foot, and the playful cats and dogs). We stayed in the bungalows which are ideal for families (own terrace, kitchen and living room while accessing all the the lodge facilities). The staff was super helpful and friendly and the food was excellent. We also enjoyed the nice “Christmas atmosphere” (cool weather cosy & crackling fireplace).”

We stayed for two nights with families and friends in one of their bungalows which is self equipped for self catering. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful place.
The surrounding is amazing with nice views…they have sports facilities too and out of all me and my son enjoyed playing squash as they have a decent squash cement court. Their food is nice and a good breakfast with limited option but all freshly cooked….their pizzas are tasty. Their service is good and all the staff are very cooperative – pool is clean too. The only thing which i want to suggest is to provide a stand fan in their bungalows as during Nov/Dec summer one will need it although Mbeya is a cooler place but still it does get quite hot during summer day time. Highly recommended….

An enjoyable night stop. Beautiful surroundings and good food. Room was spacious and clean. The staff were helpful, friendly and efficient.
The drive through Mbeya town to get to the Lodge was rather chaotic and slow.
Would have liked to have stayed longer in order to go walking.

“Such a relief to still have Utengule open, even though the main lodge building remains closed for now. The bungalows are open and provide a spacious and quiet alternative. The menu is reduced, but standards are maintained and nothing can take away the peaceful atmosphere of Utengule.”

“Very good location, excellent hospitality, friendly and smiley employees and suberb lodge manager. They do everything to make you happy during your stay. Next time I will go with my wife to stay longer and join one of the walk to waterfalls and coffee farms.”

“Stayed at the hotel for 4th times in one year. A very nice hotel in Mbeya city, tanzania, quiet area, beautiful view, comfortable and clean room, the staff are very welcoming and the food is delicious. I like it.”

“Be careful with this place. We never saw a bill or signed a single charge. They then billed us an enormous sum. When we objected, they sued. There wasn’t a single customer when we were there. We advise extreme caution with this place.”

The lodge is comfortable, beautifully landscaped, with good service. It is a bit out of the way, west of Mbeya town itself (about 9 miles or so), and requires bajaj (local “taxi”) to go to and from the lodge, which is on the south slope of the Mbeya Peak. Available-tennis court, swimming pool, quiet walking, and scheduling for massage.
Some expats let their North American parents stay here, or just use the lodge for the day (eat/relax/swim, etc.).
The lodge has a coffee plantation, which you can arrange for visits if you ask. Tanzania produces coffee beans, but Tanzanians usually drink chai (tea).
Room price range is luxury for locals; for western travelers nowadays $100 USD is about average (2019-2020 price).
One can hold meeting at the lodge, but there is no flip charts or white boards–one has to bring own supplies

“This was our second (business trip) visit to Utengule Coffee Lodge and little did we know it would coincide with the explosion of Covid-19 around the world. Apart from providing good food and a calm relaxing atmosphere in a great location, we cannot thank Debbie and her team enough for all their help and support in helping us re-book our KLM-cancelled flights to return home safely amidst the chaos. Great job team and hope you all stay safe out there!”
