Moonshine Uroa Boutique Hotel

The staff and the owner are very nice, thoughtful and helpful. The facilities are great, especially the pool and the restaurant (although there are cheaper restaurants available out there on the beach). The bungalow is very cozy and close to everything. The fridge would have been nice in the room but other than that there was everything we needed, even a big bottle of shampoo (the local one). Definitely would recommend and stay there again! Good value for money.

Disliked · The power was out many times, meaning no water, no wi-fi, no a/c, no food in the restaurant. They have their own generator but somehow that wasn’t helping much.
The Uroa beach is a good one but there are better beaches on the island. Nothing to do in the evening, just other hotels nearby.

We had the family room (1 queen bed & 2 doubles.) The room was clean, the A.C. worked great, and a partial wall with curtains separated the space into two connected rooms, which was nice for privacy. The beds were good. The garden is just beautiful, and we enjoyed our large porch looking out on the garden and ocean. The view and the direct access to the ocean is unbeatable!

Disliked · The restaurant is in need of some management. It has the potential to be great, with a bit of work. Tables were often dirty and unorganised at meal times, which makes no sense, as there were not many guests. Placemats were not clean. There are many scraggly cats that beg aggressively, even jumping on tables, and the cat problem was so persistent that it was difficult to enjoy the meal.
The swimming pool needs cleaning.

Very quiet location. The Hotel is perfectly integrated in the environment,directly on the Beach,very clean, the Staff is friendly.

Room was very nice arranged, nice swimming pool and hotel is by the such a long beach. Very kind staff. Great food. Next to the hotel is a local restaurant.

Disliked · By every breakfast flown a lot of bees everywhere. We order dinner at 20:45 and got the food at 22:45. They are so slowly with preparing food.

Both hotel and the room were very nice and clean. The staff was amazing and took a good care of us.

Disliked · I have to say that Uroa bay was a big disappointment. We’ve been to different parts of the island during our vacation and ocean is much nicer everywhere else. Uroa is very tourist oriented so all the prices are in USD and two or three times more expensive than other areas. Also there is a lot of local kids begging for money, which is not happening anywhere else in the island. So if you want to experience real Zanzibar, stay in Jambiani or even Nungwi.

Disliked · Mosquito net was fine, but missed some repellent possible to plug in the electricity network, because even they used spray against these animals all afternoon, I still had a lot every evening in my room.

The outdoor of the resort is nice and well kept. The bungalows are very nice on the outside and the architecture blends very nice in the landscape. The staff is very friendly, helpful and smiling all the time. The location is right at the beachfront and you can hear the waves during the night.

Disliked · The rooms and especially bathrooms need renovation. The windows cannot be opened probably because of bugs and mosquitos so the bathrooms are not ventilated. There is a constant smell of dampness and public toilet. The faucets and other metal elements in the bathrooms are rusty. The breakfast mainly consists of fried pastries. There are also eggs and few pieces of vegetables. Overall the food at the resort’s restaurant was pretty poor so we went out for lunch and dinner to other restaurants. Almost every night the power went out and the generator started. Our villa was the closest one to the generator and the noise was very disturbing.

Nice staff, the room was ok. The staff cleaned the room every day. Good breakfast. When we mentioned that there is a problem with drain of the shower, the staff came and try to fix it.

Disliked · The bathroom should be modernized. Not enough many sunbeds on the beach. The mattress of bed is not so comfortable, but is ok. No pressure for water but understand there is a general situation in Uroa, so, no this hotel issue. Also, we had one 1 full day with no water to the bathroom, but again, technical incidents occurs everywhere.

I would not recommend this. There is still construction so it’s noisy and the construction workers have a direct view to your balcony and pool so you barely have privacy, breakfast was nice, beach was good.
