Good average hotel with decent facilities and within walking distance of town . Food is good in a small restaurant. Rooms ok if a little bit on the dark and tacky side – seriously a bath with jacuzzi and flashing lights?? An ad hoc mixture of dark wood fittings and tiles and aluminium doors but clean and warm in a cool climate that is Mbeya. Lighting is poor. Showers good pressure and warm but soap could be bigger than postage stamp size. Staff helpful and friendly. If you looking for good value and somewhere comfortable and affordable in Mbeya then Hillview is it

This is an impressive-looking complex, with the rooms set out in a number of separate buildings: several rooms on each floor share a big sitting room, with TV (may or may not be working) and also share a kitchen, with incomplete utensils, fridge and cooking equipment. A concept with potential, but not adequately maintained. Building work was going on outside the unit I was in, and various fittings had been removed, not yet replaced; bits of plaster, paint and other debris lying about in part of the common area. The room and bathroom were adequate and reasonably comfortable, but noisy late at night and early in the morning because my bedroom overlooked a passage to the hotel kitchen. Meals were OK, but took a long time to be served – better to order an hour before the time you plan to eat, and come back later. Some of the staff do not appear well trained or to understand the level of service and behaviour that a hotel with these pretensions ought to present. One very competent, helpful young woman in the hotel office; some of the reception staff didn’t seem to have a full idea of what to do, and paying my bill on departure took a very long time.

The Hill View is my go to hotel in Mbeya. I have stayed there four times in the past two years.
The hotel is clean, if a bit dated. The beds are comfortable.
The rooms do not have air con and the window screens do not seal fully so you sometimes have to deal with mosquitoes.
The bathtubs are interesting Jacuzzi tubs but have no shower curtain.
Ask for extra water since they usually only supply one bottle.
The restaurant and bar is solid all around.

First visit to Mbeya. This is one of those boutique hotels that seemed to have been imagined in stages rather than designed from the get go. Staff are great. The restaurant is claustrophobic but you can opt to sit up on the patio (the bar is separate from the restaurant), So thumbs up

We checked in late in the night with seven colleagues and our reservaed rooms were ready for occupation. We managed to get the meals we ordered in the late night hour -i found the dining are a bit squeezed and too close to the kitchen.
As we woke up in the morning, we enjoyed the beautiful green architectural theme that matched with the well maintained lawns and carbro paved drive way.the wifi was very strong and reliable and the common lounges (living room setting) in each accommodation block was very well thought.
I enjoyed my over night stay in the Hill View Hotel

Comfortable, clean rooms, courteous, friendly & helpful staff, however, the menu & the meals during our stay were sadly lacking. Many of the dishes itemised on the menu were not available. I ordered a fillet steak … my “fillet” was not only tough … it had bones!!! Cleary not fillet 🙁 So disappointing because I had a great fillet when I last stayed here

Rooms were more than adequate, with comfortable beds and modern bathrooms. No shower curtains, so everything gets wet, but it also drains away and is cleaned well.
My first room had a bathroom where something leaked from above. Also felt a bit claustrophobic as the window looked out onto the next building. I asked for a room change, which they did without hassle. New room was much better. I appreciated the effort that was made in this regard.
Wifi reception was OK. Bit patchy and slow at times, but better than nothing. Not really good enough for streaming, but suffices for the rest.
The meals were not bad. Sometimes took a bit long to prepare, but was always worth the wait. I always dined in the outside bar as the actual restaurant was small and not well frequented, The food came from the same kitchen.
Breakfast was adequate. Nothing special, but provided most things. Just don’t expect smoked salmon and Swiss cheese and you will be alright.
Grounds are very well cared for.
Location is nice as it was very quiet in a good neighborhood, enabling one to go for a run or walk.
Will I recommend the hotel. Yes

Our family of five adults came to Mbeya after a week’s stay at a VRBO in Zanzibar. I inquired with Hillview just a few days before arriving, by email. A prompt response indicated available rooms, including rates. Upon arrival, we were able to determine remaining details about our stay. We found our rooms to be clean and comfortable, with excellent bathrooms, lots of hot and cold water, etc. A sitting room and kitchen are accessible for guests, however, the kitchen is not equipped beyond a refrigerator, stove, and hot pot. Otherwise, the place has a comfortable elegant feel. We especially enjoyed the outdoor sitting spaces. Staff assisted us with glasses and ice each afternoon for gin and tonics on the back porch. Breakfast was included, and this was more than adequate- a wide range of choices, buffet style. Staff were helpful and gracious. We would rate the on-site restaurant, for dinner, with a 2.5 out of 5 rating. If you have the good fortune to stay at the Hillview, do consider a hike up to the cross, which you can see from your room, high up on the hill. Great views!

We are in transit back to Malawi from a 8 day trip to Zanzibar and have to say this hotel in a non tourist location served us the tastiest food we have eaten all holiday. The presentation out shone anything we ate in Zanzibar. Hence the 5 star rating.
We have found the staff to be pleasant and attentive. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Overall I would recommend Hilltops to anyone needing a place to stay in Mbeya.

one of the better hotels i have stayed in traveling around Tanzania. the rooms are very clean and the spa’s huge. the staff are all very polite and helpful. the food is quite good except for breakfast which in the 3 days i stayed there was a disaster every single morning. Other than the breakfast a very pleasant stay.
TV was unreliable and the wifi did not work
