Gold Zanzibar Beach House & Spa

Food was amazing! especially dinner – local food 5*****, international kitchen, very nice staff , especially trainees.
We spent a lot of time in pool area with kids, there is also a lot of play equipment rent for free. Program in the evening was sometimes hilarious / especially acrobats.

Disliked · staff in ocean bar sometimes try to avoid paying directly to hotel and ask for money in cash and offering “discount”
life music – consider change band, singer was singing sometimes ugly and it was annoying and loud.

Staff attention, beautiful settings.
Rooms, swimming pool, spa, food were really good.

Disliked · Maybe because of Covid but limited entertainment Feb / March 2021.
Complicated organization as people can chose between half board, full board and All inclusive but they do not have a system of bracelet to identify the guests – in the end you need to sign all purchases and verify whether they charged you correctly.
A focus area could be to revive the beach area and use the restaurant and bar there more – in reality you really only use the buffet restaurant and its adjacent bar…

The beach, sand and water were great. Pool area was fantastic.

Beach is awesome. the food was not rich,they should increase of food variety. Some of drinks at least can include in meal .

The staff have good attitude and many bravo to the chefs and whole team at the restaurant was supers
The guys preparing the meat, prawns in the evening even the eggs in the morning deserves a big congratulations
The breakfast was as well of good quality
It was also good to have entertainments like music during dinner that was a bright idea

Disliked · The should not allow those nasty birds to steal peoples food.
Some prices are unnecessary high like beer both local and imported ones like Heineken there is no
justified reason why it should be USD 6 let me give you an example at Sea Cliff Dar es Salaam also
a five star that same beer is USD 3 even 4 but 6 is too high

Disliked · Everything was charged in dollars and I think it was a little over priced in terms of buying alcohol and food ( taste of food needs to be improved) this is my personal opinion others may like it

Disliked · A little bit “Egyptian” style of service, you always need to struggle for better service.

The rooms are beautiful and clean. The food buffet was very tasty and plenty of variety.

Disliked · For the amount paid, I expected nicer facilities and friendlier staff. I would highly recommend Zuri Zanzibar instead, for just a very small difference in price.

Amazing spot, just on the beach. The pool is always great and the staff do their best to make your stay smoth and comfy.

We had the all inclusive option. The food is great, and there are more of seafood options,. Veg options are fairly less for all 3 meals. However, there is a large variety to eat from. Drinks on the all inclusive are kind of limited and depending on your taste, you may end of getting bored of the same drinks. However, whatever options they have of the cocktails on the all inclusive, are made well. You can always ask them to make your drinks stronger if you want. Though, anything out of the all inclusive menu that you may need to pay for, will be a bit expensive. Given, there isn’t much around once you come out of the hotel unless you go up North further, then you are pretty much stuck with what the resort offers you.
The rooms are gorgeous and an ethnic kind of luxury. The ocean view rooms will not be right in front of the ocean and will be away with some trees or pool views in between, but that isn’t THAT bad and enjoyable in its own way. Though, if you are looking for uninterrupted views of the ocean or a room right near the beach, then the Ocean View Rooms are definitely NOT the ones you are looking for.
The pool is fantastic, the beach access is great and the beach itself is gorgeous. The beach boys can be a bit annoying, but then that is everywhere in Zanzibar and no beach in Zanzibar is 100% private to any hotel.
The staff are wonderful and ever so willing to help and ensure your stay is great.
We requested a late checkout and the staff was happy to help.
The stay here will be on the expensive side. But if you willing to splurge a bit, this place is a great stay.

Disliked · The beach dinner that was offered for my husband’s birthday was a big disappointment. It wasn’t set up at the beach in spite of the weather being good enough for it and the 4 course meal set was not at all up to the mark. We infact thought of leaving that meal mid way and going back to the Buffet which was a part of our all inclusive option.

Local staff is friendly and really tries to help you (though, not successfully)

Disliked · We booked deluxe room for 3 with ocean view – the room that we have been offered had no ocean view at all

We tried to argue, but they answered that hotel is fully booked and this is the best option they can offer
After certain pressure they offered alternative room with partial sea view but smaller room and less space for 3rd person on the separate sofa so it was not enough to accomodate 12yo child, so we had to reject it and stay in the initial room with sofa of reasonable space as they explained us that the room that we booked (and paid) doesn’t exist at all and it is a mistake in the description and pictures
We asked them to return the price difference between ocean view and garden view room but they rejected
One day we found cockroach on our plate during the breakfast
Bathrobes are missing in the room and they only provide them upon request and they are really old and worn out and have holes (the towels as well)
When you complain about the troubles to the staff, they agree with you and promise to fix it, but nothing happens
It seems they have to face such complaints every day, so they were not very surprised with all that, but it also seems that they have instructions from top management just to ignore it
Definitely not recommend this hotel and this is surely not 5 star service
For the money they ask for you can get much better value in many other places without being cheated
