Beautiful backyard landscape. Felt at peace in the middle of the city. Great staff very accommodating. Great food!

I spent a month here enjoying my large bright room with a balcony, the beautiful garden that created an oasis in the center of Arusha,, and delicious Indian, Chinese, and local cuisine at the restaurant.
Returning from safari on at the end of the year, I was looking for a place to stay for a week or two that would be relaxing, inexpensive, and close to the city center. I wanted a balcony, in-house restaurant, security, and an attentive staff. I got all of that and more at The Equator Hotel. The service and food were excellent.
From my first 3-day reservation, Patrick, the manager, learned by name as did most of the (skeleton staff). Fatuma at the front desk was always a friendly and helpful presence, seeing that I got what I needed. Felix and Kristina fought at times to see who would serve me. Jeron did my laundry and cleaned by room when I asked.
The hotel was built in the 1970s and I can’t say that it has been updated since. Still, it is in good working order and was kept spotless.The bar and dining room have a wall of beautiful illuminated batik illustrations of Tanzanian scenes. I loved them
Everyone who worked on the day I checked in worked everyday until I checked out. They worked very hard and never were anything but helpful, efficient, and polite. In fact, they never failed to treat me as family.

The room is large. Bed is comfortable enough.
I would like better breakfast. This is common with many Tanzanian hotels. Too much carbohydrates.
